HEXACO is a six-factor personality model developed by researchers Michael Ashton and Kibeom Lee. It extends the Big Five (OCEAN) with a sixth dimension called Honesty-Humility. The six factors are: Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, and Openness. Research shows HEXACO predicts certain behaviors — particularly ethical decision-making, corruption, and exploitative behavior — better than the Big Five alone.

Honesty-Humility measures sincerity, fairness, and freedom from greed and self-importance. People high in Honesty-Humility avoid manipulating others for personal gain, feel little temptation to break rules even when it would benefit them, and are not particularly motivated by money or status. People low in Honesty-Humility are more willing to exploit loopholes, inflate their own importance, and prioritize self-interest over fairness. It is the HEXACO dimension that most reliably predicts ethical behavior under pressure.

HEXACO adds a sixth dimension (Honesty-Humility) and reorganizes some of the Big Five's trait clusters. In HEXACO, some traits captured by Big Five Agreeableness and Conscientiousness are redistributed — particularly traits related to fairness and morality, which move to Honesty-Humility. HEXACO Emotionality is related to but distinct from Big Five Neuroticism, with stronger emphasis on fear, sentimentality, and interpersonal dependence. HEXACO tends to predict workplace deviance, corruption, and ethical violations more accurately than the Big Five.

For specific predictions — particularly ethical behavior, corrupt decision-making, and exploitative interpersonal strategies — HEXACO has the advantage because Honesty-Humility captures a dimension the Big Five misses.
